The 2014/2015 Donner Prize shortlist was announced earlier today.
We’re pleased to announce that Brave New Canada, by Derek H. Burney and Fen Osler Hampson, is in the running for this year’s prestigious prize. Congratulations to Derek and Fen!
In Brave New Canada, Burney and Hampson identify the key trends that are reshaping the world’s geopolitics and economics and discuss the challenges Canada confronts with the rise of China and other global centres of power.
Burney and Hampson’s examination of a wide range of themes – including the place of pluralistic democratic values in diplomacy, economics, and trade, the ways that Canada should reset relations with its neighbour to the south, as well as how to manage new global security threats – paints a picture of how Canada can become bold, assertive, and confident and easily adjust to a new global landscape.

From the Donner Prize website:
This year The Donner Canadian Foundation proudly celebrates the seventeenth anniversary of the Donner Prize, which annually rewards excellence and innovation in public policy writing by Canadians. The largest and most prestigious prize of its kind, the Donner Prize awards $50,000 to the author of the winning book, with $7,500 awarded to each of the other shortlisted titles (to a maximum of five titles).
The Donner Canadian Foundation established the prize to recognize and reward the best public policy thinking, writing and research by a Canadian, and the role it plays in determining the well-being of Canadians and the success of Canada as a whole. Previous honourees have shed light on a wide range of issues bearing on the economy, politics and society in general.
The winner will be announced at a gala awards dinner in Toronto on April 29, 2015. More info >
