This fall, the Elizabeth Dafoe Library and Archives & Special Collections of the University of Manitoba will be unveiling David Thompson’s large-scale (over 6 ft wide and 10 ft tall!) Map of northwestern North America from 1826.
From the University of Manitoba press release:
Along with the historic map the collection being housed at the University of Manitoba will include other related materials including high resolution digital images and an atlas of the 1826 map for convenient table study.
Archives & Special Collections of the University of Manitoba encourages all researchers in history, geography, native studies, law, engineering, cartography and education to study this map in support of their work. Easy access to the map at the University is enhanced by Winnipeg’s central location in North America.
William E. Moreau’s edited collection of The Writings of David Thompson, Volume 1: The Travels, 1850 Version is a vivid account of life in the fur trade, as well as an extended meditation on the land and Native peoples of western North America.
Co-published with the University of Washington Press and the Champlain Society, in association with Rupert’s Land Record Society at the University of Winnipeg, The Writings of David Thompson is the first volume of an ambitious three-volume project that will finally bring together the writings of one of North America’s most important early travellers and surveyors for a whole new generation of readers. *Stay tuned for Volume 2 in our upcoming spring 2015 catalogue!*
