The Carleton University Department of History invites you to the annual
Public History Partnerships Network Reception.
The Carleton Centre for Public History is committed to building bridges between Carleton faculty, graduate students, and the wider community of professionals working in public history and the PHPN is their foremost networking event of the year. This year, the PHPN will be launching four outstanding publications from the Carleton Community, including: O. D. Skelton: The Work of the World by Norman Hillmer, and The Official Picture: The NFB Still Photography Division and the Image of Canada by Carol Payne.
O.D. Skelton, edited by Norman Hillmer
A pioneering analysis of Skelton’s passionate foreign policy career.
O.D. Skelton: The Work of the World, 1923-1941 is a lively and compelling trip through the letters, diary entries, and official memoranda of O.D. Skelton, one of the most important and influential civil servants in twentieth-century Canada.
The Official Picture, by Carol Payne
Capturing a vision of Canadian nationalism.
For decades, the NFB’s Still Photography Division served as the country’s image bank, producing a government-endorsed “official picture” of Canada. A rich archival study, The Official Picture brings the history of the Division, long overshadowed by the Board’s cinematic divisions, to light.
