Effective immediately, McGill-Queen’s University Press will coordinate all sales and marketing efforts in the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East, and Africa through its satellite staff in the UK. MQUP will continue to distribute its books from Marston Book Services. The list will be represented by an international sales force, led by Marketing and Sales Coordinator Kate Fraser, covering bookstores and wholesalers in territories within Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. MQUP vendor partners and current authors with sales questions about our UK operation should reach out to Kate Fraser directly at katefraser.mqup@mcgill.ca or at +44 7879 424877
With the support of the Montreal office, Kate will enable the press to increase the visibility of MQUP’s publishing program in the UK, offer direct marketing support for UK and European-based authors, and assist with MQUP-branded exhibit and event opportunities in the UK and beyond.
Kate brings a wealth of marketing, sales, administration and distribution experience to MQUP’s UK operation, having worked with a wide variety of international publishers, from university presses to professional associations to scientific and technical societies to intergovernmental organizations. Notably, Kate served in senior roles at Eurospan, playing a critical part in the company’s growth from 1990 to 2016. Her contributions included overseeing marketing, sales, business development and operations.
“We’re so pleased to have Kate joining our team, her experience aligns with the goals of the press and her deep knowledge of UK/EMEA distribution and sales networks complement a team adept at promotion and sell-through in North America,” said Marketing Director and Associate Director, Erin Rolfs. “Collectively, we can now offer our authors the focused marketing expertise required to expand our international reach.”
Kate’s hire follows the appointment of Richard Baggaley as MQUP’s UK-based acquisitions editor. His list includes Stephen Kings’ Writing the Lives of the English Poor, 1750s-1830s, 2019 recipient of the British Academy’s Peter Townsend Prize, and recently reviewed at length by Norma Clarke in the London Review of Books. Other notable titles acquired through our UK office include BAFTA-nominated author Sophie Harman’s Seeing Politics: Film, Visual Method, and International Relations, and the recently released title from Michael John Law, Not Like Home: American Visitors to Britain in the 1950s.
