The Montreal branches of the Ukrainian National Federation and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and the McGill Ukrainian Students’ Association invite you to the launch of Bohdan Kordan’s new book No Free Man: Canada, the Great War, and the Enemy Alien Experience.
The event will take place Thursday, March 23rd at 7p.m. at the Ukrainian Federation Hall in Montreal. Parking is limited, so plan your arrival accordingly. Bohdan Kordan will be present to sign books.
The project is funded by a grant from the Endowment Council of the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund.

An exploration of the "enemy alien" experience in Canada during the Great War.
Approximately 8,000 Canadian civilians were imprisoned during the First World War because of their ethnic ties to Germany, Austria-Hungary, and other enemy nations. Although not as well-known as the later internments of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War, these incarcerations played a crucial role in shaping debates about Canadian citizenship, diversity, and loyalty.
