The McGill Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures — Russian Studies will be presenting a lecture by Shades of Laura author Yuri Leving, this Thursday, March 17th.
Below is a description of the lecture, which is entitled: "Nabokov, "Playboy," and the America of the 1960s".
Yuri Leving’s research is devoted to Vladimir Nabokov and his relationship with the iconic magazine and popular American culture through the 1960s. Relying on the previously unpublished sources, Leving claims that Nabokov’s long-lasting association with the men’s magazine can be treated as a much more serious engagement with contemporary mass culture and publishing business, one that still functions even today as demonstrated by Playboy’s acquisition of the first serial rights of The Original of Laura, Nabokov’s final, unfinished novel.
The lecture will take place in the Wendy Patrick Room, Wilson Hall.
