Todd Dufresne and Mark Kingwell will launch their respective new books, The Democracy of Suffering: Life on the Edge of Catastrophe, Philosophy in the Anthropocene and Wish I Were Here: Boredom and the Interface at the Centre for Social Innovation in Toronto. The event will feature a Q&A with Alia Abaya.
Uncovering how we got into this mess and how, if at all, we get out of it, The Democracy of Suffering is a flicker of light, or perhaps a scream, in the face of human extinction and the end of civilization. Todd Dufresne is professor of philosophy at Lakehead University and author of The Late Sigmund Freud: Or, The Last Word on Psychoanalysis, Society, and All the Riddles of Life.
Written in accessible language that references both classical philosophers and contemporary critics, Wish I Were Here turns to philosophy for a cure to the widespread unease that something is amiss in modern waking life. Mark Kingwell is professor of philosophy at the University of Toronto.
