In Celebration of University Press Week
McGill-Queen’s University Press and the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada
are pleased to present
Making Knowledge Public: Engaged Scholarship and the University Press in Canada
University presses are key constituents in the scholarly ecosystem alongside scholarly associations, research institutions, and libraries. They are also extensions of their parent institutions, and the books published by university presses have long been a bridge between universities and the wider academic and public communities to which they belong.
In the digital age, scholars, intellectuals, and publishers have an array of tools for undertaking and disseminating scholarship, and are being challenged more than ever to demonstrate the social value and reach of academic research. In this context, the book remains a resilient form and a vital way that presses and their authors serve the public good. The American Association of University Press’s University Press Week is an opportunity to reflect on what is at stake in the book – as academic and intellectual work, as a method of public engagement, and as an enduring form of intellectual expression.
To celebrate the second annual AAUP University Press Week, please join McGill-Queen's University Press and the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada for a stimulating roundtable discussion with a Montreal flavour.
Learn about three very different facets of the city and its history from MQUP authors Louis Martin, Sherry Olson and Patricia Thornton, and Miranda Campbell, as they speak about the research, ideals, and challenges that shaped their books.
