Foreign Rights

McGill-Queen's University Press is always keen to reach an even wider audience to its books.  Although MQUP has worldwide distribution, we recognize that certain titles are better served by co-publication arrangements outside Canada. In such cases our rights department begins contacting potential publishers once the manuscript has been received for review. We also attend the annual Frankfurt and London book fairs, Book Expo America, Book Expo Canada, etc., in order to present titles in person. 

Co-publication:

The Press is active in both the purchase and sale of rights to editions for territorial markets. Recent co-publishers include: Harcourt Brace, The British Museum Press, Acumen Publishing Ltd, Oxford University Press, University of Washington Press, University of Georgia Press, Cornell University Press, University of Chicago Press, The Smithsonian Institution Press, Gill & Macmillan Ltd, C. Hurst & Co., Macmillan, St. Martins, David Godine, Stanford University Press, University of Oklahoma Press, and University of Texas Press.

Translation:

The rights department at MQUP seeks out foreign language publishers for most of the titles on our list. In Canada we have close relations with many francophone publishers and regularly send them translation proposals for books we think will be of interest. To date we have licensed foreign editions in most of the major languages of the world: Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese language rights to some of our books.
