“Resilience is geographical, spiritual, historical. It’s the fight against climate change, the inner battle with mental health, the outcry for human rights and an end to systemic racism. Resilience is the backbone of generations of trauma, the silence at the dinner table, the bow to culture’s violin. Resilience is the courage to start each day anew.” League of Canadian Poets, NPM 2021
Yielding the first full month of spring, April also brings forth National Poetry Month in Canada. The League of Canadian Poets, a professional organization for established and emerging Canadian poets founded in 1966 to nurture the advancement and promotion of poetry, invites us to join them in celebrating the 23rd National Poetry Month with this year’s inspiring theme of “Resilience.”
To celebrate the occasion, we have compiled a list of some of recent and forthcoming poetry titles from the MQUP Hugh MacLennan Poetry Series. Launched in 1998, this series is named in honour of the late Hugh MacLennan, acclaimed Canadian novelist and a poet in his own right. Exploring the human experience, historical memory, and the wonders of the natural world – among other things – these poetry collections offer inspiring and courageous reminders that resilience comes in varying forms.
